Krakow, Poland - November 11, 2019: Polish folks gathering in Krakow's Old Town's Main Square. Every hour on the top of the hour, St. Mary's bugle call can be heard, a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. The characteristic signal trumpet melody, known and dear to every Pole, can be heard all over the city’s Old Town historical district. If you can't make it to the Main Square, just tune into the Polish national radio where it has been broadcasted since the 1920s.
November 11, Independence Day, marks the 101st anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. At noon, the trumpeter played the National Anthem instead of the usual hourly melody, and all the people in the Square sang along. The singing took place simultaneously nationwide in cities, towns and villages all over Poland in celebration of Polish Independence Day and was also broadcasted on the Polish national radio.
I'm just a girl with wanderlust in my blood, a camera in my hand and a keen eye for all things beautiful. When I am not out traveling about and shooting stock photos for Shutterstock, Getty/iStock and Dreamstime, I love creating surreal images - many of which you can find in the Make Believe gallery. Thank you for stopping by and have a beautiful day!
