Description
Krakow, Poland - November 2, 2019: Burning candles illuminate the graves in honor of All Saints' Day at Salwator Cemetery.
All Saints’ Day in Poland is one of the nation’s most important holidays. It is a solemn celebration of life, a time of reflection and a day when families gather at cemeteries to honor the lives of those no longer living. Both November 1st and 2nd are days rooted in Roman Catholic traditions with special church services offered in memory of the dead.
The grave site in the foreground is that of Andrzej Wajda, a Polish film director whose many works chronicled Poland's political and social evolution. He is especially known for his 1950s trilogy of war films.
